The transnational linkages and configurations that result for the citizenship and intercultural relations are shaping the way new social and political relationships are built within the nation-State. This conference will examine our understanding of the interplay between transnational practices and local integration of migrants in the West. It will explore if the maintenance of transnational ties may, in some cases, prevent the development of a sense of connection to their local environment. It will also examine the complex relationship between transnational practices and cultural identities related on the one hand and questions of national belonging and the results of active citizenship on the other. By doing so, the seminar will consider the question of whether transnationalism in general can be seen as a leading potential towards the local integration,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Fethi Mansouri, director of the Centre for citizenship and globalization, is the holder of a chair in migration and intercultural relations, School of international studies and political, Deakin University. He is the author of several publications, which address issues of diaspora and identity Islam and Political Violence: Muslim Diaspora and Radicalism in the West<\/em> , (2007). His 2004 book Lives in Limbo: Lives in Limbo: Voices of Refugees under Temporary Protection<\/em> has been pre-selected for the medals and awards of the rights of man 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
